Solo
Jamal's solo performances include a variety of hand made percussion instruments and flutes. It is a perfect interlude at festivals or other events, between groups or when a brief (30 minutes or less) entertainment set is needed. No setup time required. Brahma is an exciting new group combining the best elements of Balinese, South Indian, Middle Eastern and Jazz music, featuring four of the most renowned musicians in their respective fields: (from left to right)

D'Drum
D-Drum was formed by Dallas' leading professional percussionists in 1990. The members have had extensive training in Classical, Jazz, Balinese, Middle Eastern, African, Asian, and Indian music. Their desire is to explore the sounds made from a vast array of percussion instruments and wind instruments from around the world. The unique sound of D-Drum synthesizes the many different disciplines (both traditional and contemporary) into a single musical expression.

From left to right:

John Bryant — Mr. Bryant is a music producer, composer, and percussionist whose work is featured in the Emmy Award winning documentary film, "The US-Mexican War" for PBS, and a National Geographic Television film entitled "Lions of Darkness". He has also been commissioned to compose and record the musical accompaniment for three original works for the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. In addition to working in recording studios as a producer and musician, Mr. Bryant has toured with Ray Charles and the Paul Winter Consort.

Doug Howard — Mr. Howard is the Principal Percussionist with the Dallas Symphony. He also serves as Adjunct Professor of Music at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, in addition to being a member of the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival. During 1991, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the international Percussive Arts Society.

Ed Smith — A native Dallasite, Mr. Smith left to study privately in Boston and New York City before returning to Dallas to perform and record with many jazz groups. He has studied Balinese music while visiting the island on numerous occasions, and is on the music staff as an accompanist for the Division of Dance, Meadows School for the Arts at SMU. He also teaches vibraphone at the University of North Texas and percussion at Cedar Valley College.

Ron Snider — Group leader and founder. Mr. Snider has been with the Dallas Symphony as a percussionist since 1970 and is an active studio recording musician. As a cimbalom soloist, Mr. Snider has performed and recorded with the Dallas, Milwaukee, and Houston symphonies. He has been a featured soloist at the World Cimbalom Congress held in Hungary and has recorded on Hungarotron Records, Koss Classics, and Pro Arte. Mr. Snider has performed recently at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York, and has been featured with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Jamal Mohamed — Jamal Mohamed has been a featured artist in many international music events, including festivals in Europe, Egypt, Korea, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico. Jamal was born in Lebanon and grew up in the Chicago area, where he was exposed to rich blues and jazz traditions as well as the Middle Eastern music he heard at home. Known for his virtuosity on the doumbek, Jamal has incorporated many innovative Jazz and Latin styles with this ancient instrument. He designs and builds many of the instruments he plays and has worked extensively in dance, theater, film, and music therapy.

Cantiga
The word CANTIGA means 'song' in the language of Alfonso the Wise, the 13th century Spanish "King of the Three Religions" whose royal court was a haven for Christian, Muslim, and Jewish musicians. Following in their tradition, the members of Cantiga are dedicated to the inclusive spirit of musical improvisation which has flourished among musicians in cultural crossroads throughout history and continues to be celebrated in today's diverse Global Village.
